Psychological support for your wellbeing

Research suggests mindfulness and visual cognitive behavioural therapy can be very helpful general wellbeing resources for people living with cancer. For people receiving treatment for advanced prostate cancer or caring for a loved one who is going through this, the benefits of finding a way to maintain calm and cope with the potential anxiety and strain of a long-term serious illness can be even bigger.

Whether you find that you are anxious, stressed, feeling low or just not feeling completely present, the Enzalutamide & me patient support team have developed a series of mindfulness podcasts to help you throughout your journey with advanced prostate cancer.

Developed by specialist patient psychologists, our mindfulness podcasts and visual CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) modules vary in skill focus, content and duration – you can choose them depending on your needs, the time you have available and what you want to achieve. Follow the guide below to find the right session for you.

Mindfulness

Our mindfulness podcasts aim to help provide you with strategies and techniques to increase awareness of how you are feeling and why, and to help you manage your thoughts and feelings. By exploring the different topics around relaxation and alternative thinking, you will learn some key techniques to help you manage any emotions.

How to choose which mindfulness podcasts are best for me

A good place to start is with how much time you have available – our mindfulness podcasts vary in duration from 3 minutes to 10 minutes and cover topics ranging from general breathing to specific strategies for coping with difficult thoughts and feelings. Alternatively, you can choose a mindfulness session based on a specific problem from the list below:

GENERAL RELAXATION
  • The art of breathing
  • Progressive relaxation
  • Three-minute calm
FOCUS
  • Body awareness: refocussing the mind
  • Mindful morning
SLEEP PROBLEMS
  • Deep sleep preparation
ANXIETY
  • Calm: guided visualisation
  • Self-compassion in daily life
PAIN
  • Body awareness: a focus on pain
NEGATIVE THOUGHTS
  • Overthinking: how to clear your mind

Visual Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Visual CBT is based on the concept that how you think, feel and behave are all connected. By helping you to identify unhelpful beliefs or negative thought patterns, the techniques taught in our visual CBT course can help to influence more positive behaviour and manage your thoughts better to improve your wellbeing. The Enzalutamide & me visual CBT course consists of 12 modules – these are available as a structured course so that you can access the modules in order and build on the techniques at your own pace.

Congratulations! Just by reading through these options you have started to be more mindful of how you are feeling, which is a key first step in self-care. Looking after your emotional needs is just as important as your physical health – if you should at any time require more help with coping with your illness and would like to explore further options, please ask your healthcare team for more information on how to access further resources. We are all here to help.
